What Brought You To The Palouse?
“We were tired of the Texas heat, missed being able to enjoy outdoor recreation and were ready for an adventure. We love spending time with our dogs, skiing, boating, kayaking, and hiking. When we were looking for where we wanted to settle down, we loved the idea of being so close to Washington State University and the University of Idaho campuses. We already know we will be active fans, especially during Football season! Having made several trips to the area, we have become serious Cougar Gold Cheese addicts. We are so happy it will finally be easier to come by and Pullman will be our home!”

Personal Information & Outside of Work
Personal Information
Dr. Molly Thompson was born and raised in the great state of Iowa! No stranger to rural living, she grew up as second oldest of four children, on a small family farm in northern Iowa where they raised pigs and grew corn and soybeans. She realized that she wanted to be a physician early in life and was determined to achieve her dream. Dr. Thompson left Iowa and ventured into the “big city” of Omaha, Nebraska to attend college at Creighton University where she studied biology and medical anthropology. While in college, she realized her passion for international medicine and service. She has spent time working and learning with Indian Health Services (Blackfeet Community Hospital in Browning, MT & Fred LeRoy Health and Wellness Center, Ponca Tribe in Omaha, NE). She spent a summer researching water quality and public health in the Dominican Republic and spent a summer in the Mampong District Hospital in Ghana, Africa while she still in medical school. These experiences have made lasting impressions on Dr. Thompson and provided her with a desire to do all she can to cross cultural boundaries and help patients from all backgrounds gain access to the care they need.
After her undergrad at Creighton, Dr. Thompson returned to Iowa City for medical school where she finally became a Hawkeye at the University of Iowa. She then spent the next 3 years of her training in residency in Fort Worth Texas, at the largest Family Medicine Residency in the country; John Peter Smith (JPS) Residency program. While in residency, she was trained in full-spectrum family medicine, spending innumerable hours in the county hospital. She found this to be an incredible experience as she got to work in a safety-net hospital with a large, diverse community including the many Dallas-Fort Worth refugee patients that came from around the world. While Dr. Thompson enjoyed her experiences in Texas. loved her residency, and has really taken to the saying “y’all”, she knew Texas is not where she wanted to settle down. was ready for a change of scenery. Since every vacation she took ended up involving snow, wide open spaces and fresh mountain air, she quickly decided her heart was set on finding a place in the Pacific Northwest!
Outside of work and in her free time, Dr. Thompson usually can be found playing outside! She loves gardening/farming (not picking up sticks though). Very passionate about the environment, she has new goals and is thinking of trying her hand at bee keeping! She loves playing sports whenever she can and states that volleyball is her favorite. She loves trying new foods and exploring the world with her stomach! If she is not found outside or exploring, then she is likely catching up on movies, television, or pop culture from the comfort home. When it comes to seasons, Dr. Molly Thompson loves the fall the most! She loves camping and sitting around the campfire with friends. Dr. Thompson absolutely loves dogs! So much so that while finishing her residency program, she decided to give her rescue dog Glenn some play mates and become a foster-dog volunteer with the local shelter. It is a great thing she did, because that’s when Dr. Thompson met Maggie, who just seemed destined to join her little family. Maggie officially joined the pack right before their move to Pullman and is happy to be living in the Palouse too!
